Department of Justice/ National Institute of Justice (DOJ/NIJ)
The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) investment in nanotechnology furthers the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) mission through the sponsorship of research that provides objective, independent, evidence based knowledge and tools to meet the challenges of crime and justice, particularly at the state and local levels. New projects are awarded on a competitive basis, and therefore, total investment may change each fiscal year. However, NIJ continues to view nanotechnology as an integral component of its research and development portfolio as applicable to criminal justice needs.
