At the heart of the NNI is support for nanotechnology R&D across the entire continuum, from basic research that fuels new discoveries through application-driven advanced research and development that leads to new products in the market. The NNI participating agencies use their authorities and mechanisms to fund nanotechnology R&D, which in sum make up the NNI research portfolio.
