Heather Evans

Heather Evans headshotDr. Heather Evans is a senior program analyst in the Program Coordination Office in the Director’s Office at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). She covers policy and strategy issues for NIST in many areas including nanotechnology, bioscience, advanced manufacturing, and innovation. Heather is currently representing NIST on the Nanoscale Science and Technology (NSET) Subcommittee under the NSTC Committee on Technology. She spent spring 2013 on a detail assignment in NASA's Office of Strategy Formulation. Prior to working at NIST, Heather held a position at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) managing the development of the 2011 National Nanotechnology Initiative Strategic Plan and helping to coordinate interagency global policy issues in emerging technologies. During a 2008-2010 AAAS S&T Policy Fellowship, she coordinated program planning and workshops in areas such as nanotechnology-enabled sensors and safety of nanomaterials for OSTP and the National Nanotechnology Coordination Office. Heather was a Humboldt Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization in Gottingen, Germany, and earned her doctorate in materials science from the University of California Santa Barbara.
